Important Planning Meeting Fri. 2/6

Just a reminder: we we are meeting this Friday, Feb. 6th from 4-6 PM at the PSC (61 Broadway 16th floor) to make plans for National Adjunct Action Week (in lieu of National Adjunct Walkout Day, since the Taylor Law makes staging a walkout illegal). Please try to make it if you can. Hope to see you there!

Best,
Jenn, on behalf of the AP team

Hello all,

Last Friday was the first CUNY-wide planning meeting for the National Adjunct Day of Action. A number of great ideas were put forward, including but not limited to a “Where Your Tuition Dollar REALLY Goes” awareness campaign for students, a social media campaign, and a union membership drive specifically directed at adjuncts and other contingent workers, with the particular goal of increasing voting power on the contract and in union elections.
Friday, Feb. 6 from 4-6 pm at the PSC (61 Broadway, 16th floor) there will be a planning meeting to firm up plans for these campaigns. If you want to have a say in what goes on on your campus, have other ideas to share, or just want to participate, please make an effort to attend. And please share this announcement with CUNY friends and colleagues!
Hope to see you there,
Jenn, on behalf of the AP

Important Petition – Please Sign!

Dear all,

As you are probably aware, there is a rule in the PSC-CUNY contract limiting adjunct faculty to teaching 9 credits at one CUNY college and 6 credits at a second CUNY college each semester. Though it has been argued that this policy protects adjuncts, it is in actuality a hardship for most part-time faculty members, as it results in additional travel time and cost and makes scheduling more difficult. More importantly, an increasing number of campuses are offering 4-credit courses, making it nearly impossible for adjuncts to get enough work to make ends meet.
Because this policy does more harm than good, it must be changed. We therefore call on full- and part-time faculty, staff, and graduate assistants to sign and circulate this petition demanding that the 9-6 rule be rescinded in ongoing contract negotiations. As we continue the fight for a good contract, we must also fight to ensure that it is a fair contract for ALL CUNY employees.

Thank you,
Jennifer Chancellor

Welcome to a New Semester! :)

Hello All,

Welcome to the Spring 2015 semester from the Adjunct Liaison Committee!  We hope this will be an enjoyable and successful semester for our returning and new adjunct faculty alike!

We have some new adjunct faculty this semester to which the committee would like to extend a special welcome.  Please feel free to contact us (click HERE) with any questions you may have.

Please continue to check this website as we will be posting information for the new semester over the next few days.  We will continue to update this home page over the semester.

Both new and returning adjunct faculty may find the following material helpful:

Two important notes:

  • This website does NOT replace the individual course websites on the BMCC website hub.  CLICK HERE FOR THAT WEBSITE HUB.
  • Click on the “Follow” button in the sidebar to the right of this post to be notified every time we post an update here.

Regarding the weather conditions: BMCC closed the afternoon of Monday 1/26 and remain closed tomorrow, Tuesday 1/27  When the school is closed, even faculty members are not allowed to enter the buildings or use any of the school’s resources.  You can check the school website HERE to find out if the school is closed or not at any given time.  You can also sign up for CUNY Alert through the BMCC website to get text/email notifications about school closings and emergencies.  I strongly recommend doing this!

Have a wonderful semester and be safe in the storm,

The Adjunct Liaison Committee

Grade Submission Deadlines – VERY IMPORTANT!

Hello All,

Please find below the message from our Chair regarding grade submission deadlines.

Our Chair has requested that I let all of you know that it is VERY IMPORTANT THAT ALL FACULTY SUBMIT THEIR FINAL GRADES BY THE DEADLINE.  The attached memo gives you full information about grade submission procedures and deadlines.

I personally might add that missing grade submission deadlines is one of the major factors that may lead to non-reappointment.

If you are having trouble with your final grades, please contact Jan or me for help.

Best,

Jaime
🙂

—————————————-

Dear faculty:

Please see the attached memo regarding submitting your final grades for the semester.

I am asking that you submit your grades in a timely manner because failure to do so has serious negative impact on students who are graduating or receiving financial aid.  Also, we do not want the Registrar and Dean sending us reminders!

If you are traveling, please submit your grades before you leave as it is easier to handle potential problems.

If you are having trouble with CUNYFIRST, you can go to the Registrar (S315) and see Mr. Jimenez or other staff for assistance.

Thank  you all.

Joyce
